Hi!
I’m Margaret and Roman (Roman Tomato, Mr. Tomato Head, etc.) is a 10 year old Bisenji mix with a heart of gold. He is goofy, sweet as pie and one of a kind for sure! Roman was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma in his left hind hock on 6/17/2015. We chose to have the leg amputated to get rid of the cancer and reduce his pain. Surgery is today, 6/23/2015! Grateful for good vets, a supportive community and all of your stories about tripawd life!
It is so helpful to read all of your words of wisdom as I sit here trying to take my mind off of the surgery. I know this is the best decision for my boy and am excited for him and his new lease on life without that pesky, painful leg! If anyone has anymore words of wisdom about post-operation care and life with their tripawds I would love to hear them. I have read all of the FAQs on the website and want to be as prepared as possible for when Roman comes home tomorrow. Thank you for everything, so glad I found this site!
Cheers,
Margaret

Thinking of you and your boy and sending well wishes for a successful surgery and fast recovery. My boy, Oz, had a front leg amputated 3 months ago. It went well and he’s very active now. It will be hard the first few days, but gets better and better. They are so happy when they discover it not longer hurts to move.

Oh my gosh you guys are so adorable! I hope surgery went great. Let us know OK?
The best advice I can give you above all else is no matter what, stay pawsitive. The more optimistic and upbeat you are, the more RomanTomato will believe that he is PAWESOME on three legs. Our dogs absorb our emotions, so it’s up to us to set the tone of recovery. You can do it!

Thank you! And thank you for the advice. I can’t wait to shower Roman with love and encouragement when he gets home.
